Nye tradisjoner - new traditions

I love traditions, at least the good ones...you know what to look forward too, it gives so many memories and it gives structure. For someone who likes to plan ahead that is a great thing. I want to give my children some traditions, and decided to start Sunday cooking/baking. I personally hate to play an active role in the kitchen, but i do LOVE to eat. I love the smells, tastes and comforts food bring!

I decided I should still pass on some of the little knowledge I have of cooking and baking, and maybe my kids will enjoy it more than I do.
So, last Sunday we started with walnut-mint brownies. Miss E. got to crack an egg (it didn't make the bowl) and we had a lot of fun.

And again I ate too much....oh, the sacrifices we make for our children!

Old plates

Posted by Picasa
I love old plates. They usually have the prettiest design, I'm a big fan of the floral theme. They are so delicate and beautiful. I simply love to decorate with them. I display a lot of them on top of my kitchen cabinets, thanks to my mother-in-law generous donations. I hope that I run across a plate shelf at a garage sale soon, because I have a lot more plates I would like to show off. Again, these all have history.....

A treasure from my home

A while back my wonderful mother-in-law gave me this box of silverware. I really love it! It has one full set, and pieces of 4-5 other sets.

At the bottom there is a small drawer with more cutlery and serving pieces.

Some of the pieces are dated and go back to 1847! That is so exciting to me. I love to think about fancy ladys having dinner or tea with these pieces. This chest of silverware is very special to me and my oldest daughter! We both love old things with history. Our house actually dates back to 1889. It used to be an old school house. However, it doesn't really look that old, it's been renovated so many times. Nevertheless, it's exciting that it was a part of the old west.

Have a good day!

Sick days

It's been a hard week for my kids and I. We all got a stomach bug, at night off course, so I have had very little sleep. My husband is off on Fridays, so I finally got some sleep last night. I feel SO much better! I am so glad we all feel good again! Now there is a house that needs to be disinfected and cleaned.....

Lovely days

Some lovely spring weather has come our way! It feels like we're waking up...Yesterday we hung our sunsetter back in place and put out our patio set. Too bad it gets too cold for flowers yet. We still have frost nighttime. In the meantime, I'll enjoy these fake ones....

How to make a diaper cake

Buy two packs of diapers and a bunch of rubber ties in different sizes. Roll each diaper up.

First tier: 1 diaper in the middle, 7 around
Second tier: 7 diapers +12
Third tier: 8 + 13 + 19 diapers
Use the bigger rubber ties for the outer circles

Stack on a tray or something that will keep it on place. Decorate with ribbon and whatever. Super easy! And it really didn't take long!

Diaper cake!

I made a delicious diaper cake for my friend's baby shower!

I knitted little Mary-Jane's for the little baby girl.

Besides for diapers, there is a baby towel at the bottom, a hair bow at the top, the booties, baby powder and lotion for decoration.

Pretty cute!

B-party ay preschool

We had to bring a healthy snack for Miss E's special day at preschool. Took me a while to come up with something, but I ended up with fruit on a stick.

It tasted yummy! It was fun to visit at the school. She had a pretty fun lunch, where she got to do special things. It was fun for mom to see what a special preschool snack was.

The Party

I made little kitty paw cookies for miss E's kitty party. I used round cookies, chocolate chips and a junior mint. Turned out pretty cute I think.

Miss E has been a vegetarian since birth, but she decided she wanted a hot dog. And it was as delicious as she hoped it would be....

We had a cat grooming station where all the kids got cat ears, tails and whiskers. It was fun!

The Party

We served hot dogs, mac'n cheese, chips and CAKE!

My friend Amy made this cake out of fondant and marzipan! Isn't it beautiful?

She made cute little kittens and mice out of marzipan. It looked and tasted scrumptious!

It was a fun and crazy party. I'm glad it's over!

The Big Party Day!

Today is THE day for Prinsesse E. She is turning 5 Monday, but we are celebrating today. We rented a big room for cheap, and it's totally worth it! The thought of cleaning before and after a CRAZY kiddo party......
My little girl is so excited. Lots of friends and some family are coming and I hope it will be a great time. The theme is kitty cat. Miss E and her friends are really in to animals, so hopefully it will be a hit... Lots of pictures will be posted when the affair is over.
