Halloween 2010

It's time to party and have some fun!
My town does trick or treating tonight, the day before Halloween. Rumor has it that this once a wild west cowboy town ,was too dangerous for kids to be walking around town on the 31st. You see, that would be the last day of the month - pay day! That meant drunken cowboys out drinking, doing shootouts to resolve conflicts....

Here is my "scary" centerpiece for the day. Some colored water acts like poison. The gummy worms adds to the creep factor....
Add some floating candles for pretty and some pumpkin bread for the yummy!

This is a new recipe for me and the bread is really moist and tasty. The apples, nuts and spices makes this an easy and perfect Autumn treat!

Pumpkin/apple bread: (Taste of Home Magazine)

1-2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1-1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 c. water
2 eggs
1/3 c. canola oil
1 c. chopped peeled apples
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
I also added 1 c. chocolate chips

1. In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients. In another large bowl whisk the wet ingredients, stir in dry ingredients til just moist. Fold in apples, walnuts and chocolates.
2. Pour into greased 9-in.x5in-.x3-in. loaf pan. Bake at 325f for 1-1/2 or until toothpick inserts near center comes out clean. Cool 10 min. in pan before moving to wire rack to cool.

Enjoy!

Gifts tags

I made some gift tags for Christmas gifts the other day.
I can't wait to wrap gifts!
I love wrapping gifts!

- And this year I'm going to put more effort into it! (I usually get so excited about it that my wrapping gets done in a haste.)

Today the first snow came. It's starting to look like winter wonderland!

Friday

Nothing is like good eating and reading! (I have a feeling I will do a lot of eating this weekend...).
My friend made a beautiful pie, the girls played together, we drank coffee and drooled over the American Girl Magazine....fun,fun,fun!

We're off to a weekend with family!

"Old World Charm"

That is the name I named the color I mixed up. I had this dark blue that I mixed with some white, and it created this wonderful shade of blue. (In hindsight I wish I had added some black. so the color had turned more gray-blueish....)

So the last two days I've painted the kitchen/laundry area.
First me and a friend did the white part of the walls, it was looking pretty dirty.
Now; sparkly clean!

Then I did the blue.
I'm not in love, more so if it was in a bedroom I think.
But it is growing on me.... And I'm way too lazy to redo it!

Once everything is up on the walls it will probably look more like me...???...

Our Monday's

Every Monday, Baby and I visit big sister at school. We meet up for lunch and then we hang out for recess. Both kids love this! Baby gets to wear a backpack with lunch, and Miss E gets to see mommy. And mommy gets to see a little of Miss E's school day, and meet her friends and teachers. I better take advantage of this time, I'm sure in not too long until she will not welcome me at school....sob...

Ribbons

I did a super easy "craft" (I'm not sure if it can be called a craft).... I cut ribbons for my girls hair! Lately I simply love to put ribbons in their hair. I cut some Halloween ones (not in the picture), some Christmas ones and some for everyday. Such a simple thing to add to my live "dolls" hair! -And so nostalgic and classic!

The best part: the girls love it too!

Visitors

I love living in an old house, the charm and the uniqueness. There is no other house that's just like this one. However, it also comes with unwanted guests every fall...mice! EEEK! I'm freaking out!

Yesterday I put out two traps, (the wonderful kind where you don't have to see them), -and they have done their purpose. I was a little surprised that there was two... Anyways, I've been up for 1 1/2 h listening to one that didn't die, trying to get out.... I'm about to freak out! I can't wait till hubby wakes up! I'm realizing that I am totally terrified mice.....please just go away...
Just wanted to share that wonderful information with you...Sorry!

Our new pet

Meet our Halloween pet, a spray painted decorative bird. -Not a black scary crow, but still pretty cool...

I hung a branch, added some moss and the bird. Pretty cool if you ask me, -don't ask my husband....

Beatrix Potter

-Such a wonderful author and illustrator! Who cant appreciate the cute stories and adorable little creatures? Not me! I've heard there is a movie about her, starring Rene Zelleweger. I need to put that on my Netflix list! Sure to be a lovely movie.

Lunch with my girls

Sometimes it's fun to add some fancy in everyday life. I decided to surprise my girls with a pretty lunch the other day. While they were playing Barbies, I made a fall table scape. I love the ugly, yet pretty, gourds you can get this time of year. Also the colors; browns, oranges, yellows and greens... I love the mums and the scarecrows you can decorate with... I simply LOVE fall!

I made Norwegian rolls and we had Saft brought back from Norway to drink, no more left.... sob...
We also had a delicious tapioca-raspberry dessert with cool-whip and choc chip on top... It was very yummy!

My girls were happy with the surprise...which made me very happy!

Sugar sweet

Here are our candid apples! It was a little hard to do, but tasted yummy! -And very fun for my girl to dip them in different sprinkles! This will probably be a yearly tradition in our household.
It so very fallish!

This sweet little container was a birthday gift, it is perfect for brown sugar. I use that a lot this time of year; oatmeal, squash and casseroles to name a few.
Today I'm going to the big city with a friend to meet another friend. Olive Garden here we come!
