It's time to party and have some fun!
My town does trick or treating tonight, the day before Halloween. Rumor has it that this once a wild west cowboy town ,was too dangerous for kids to be walking around town on the 31st. You see, that would be the last day of the month - pay day! That meant drunken cowboys out drinking, doing shootouts to resolve conflicts....
Here is my "scary" centerpiece for the day. Some colored water acts like poison. The gummy worms adds to the creep factor....
Add some floating candles for pretty and some pumpkin bread for the yummy!
This is a new recipe for me and the bread is really moist and tasty. The apples, nuts and spices makes this an easy and perfect Autumn treat!
Pumpkin/apple bread: (Taste of Home Magazine)
1-2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1-1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 c. water
2 eggs
1/3 c. canola oil
1 c. chopped peeled apples
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
I also added 1 c. chocolate chips
1. In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients. In another large bowl whisk the wet ingredients, stir in dry ingredients til just moist. Fold in apples, walnuts and chocolates.
2. Pour into greased 9-in.x5in-.x3-in. loaf pan. Bake at 325f for 1-1/2 or until toothpick inserts near center comes out clean. Cool 10 min. in pan before moving to wire rack to cool.
Enjoy!
